DevCon Founder Urges Educators: Transition into Tech

Teachers Hold Skills Today to Impact Tomorrow

CHICAGO (Dec. 6, 2021)—Educators are perfectly poised to participate in the predicted 9M+ jobs the Salesforce universe will generate during the next five years.

That’s just one of several insights DevCon founder Dorian Earl shared with more than 100 attendees of the Illinois Business Education Association’s fall conference.

“As a result of Salesforce's entry into the education industry, opportunities exist for educators/teachers to transition into the technology field,” Earl told participants. “Many educators already possess the necessary skills that allow them to easily translate into a role supporting Salesforce technology.”

During his workshop—“What Working in the Salesforce Ecosystem Looks Like and Opportunities It Affords Educators and More”—Earl outlined the skill set educators possess enabling them to participate in this anticipated boom:

  • Analytical

  • Communication

  • Interpersonal

  • Leadership

  • Presentation

  • Technical

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Attention to detail

  • Creative problem-solving

  • Planning and organization

Cultural fluency
Rallying around the theme, “Adding Cultural Fluency to Your Briefcase,” the 59th annual IBEA event attracted business educators and other professionals culled from middle schools, high schools, community colleges, universities and businesses across Illinois and beyond. The early November virtual event featured sessions designed to increase the knowledge and skills of school and district leaders and teachers.

In addition to Earl’s workshop, the two-day conference featured five attention-grabbing spotlight speakers, 29 additional breakout sessions, several hands-on opportunities for earning industry certifications, teacher roundtables and an award ceremony. Educators earned professional development hours as they deepened their content knowledge and learned research-backed instructional strategies.
